Youth Recreation Grants

Research tells us that adolescents involved in positive, recreational activity can gain improved self-esteem, develop and improve social skills and learn socially appropriate behaviour through positive role modelling and leadership.

The City of Kitchener's youth recreation grants program provides financial assistance to local neighbourhood associations and community groups interested in developing recreational/social programs for youth of all abilities, aged 11-17.

Program examples may include:

  • Anti-bullying

  • Arts and culture

  • Crafts

  • Resume writing

  • Self-esteem

  • Self-interest

  • Sports and fitness

A maximum of $300 per program per session is available. These funds will help cover the cost of staff wages, who will assist the community groups in developing and administering the programs. Only one youth program per group will be considered.

All funding proposals must demonstrate:

  • It is supported by a recognized City of Kitchener neighbourhood association or not for profit agency.

  • The sponsoring group has secured alternate funding.

  • The program is well-planned and youth-appropriate.

  • The goals and outcomes of the program are being evaluated on a regular basis (minimum once/year).

  • The program will give regard to persons with a disability, as identified by the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA).

The 2011/12 application form is available here.
