Waste Management

Kitchener is the birthplace of the Blue Box - the world-renowned recycling program that has encouraged millions of homeowners to be more aware of what they're disposing of - and how much waste they're producing.

Reducing both the resources we use and the waste we generate can be easily accomplished by making changes to everyday activities.

Kitchener continues to reduce resource consumption and decrease the amount of material going to landfill through rethinking, reusing, repairing, recycling and using green bins for composting.

Local waste management (including recycling and garbage pick up) is managed by the Region of Waterloo. Their website has lots of information on local curbside collection and recycling programs.
