Urban Design Awards

The City of Kitchener's Urban Design Awards honour development-industry leaders who exemplify a commitment to design excellence and contribute to creating a built environment that enhances our quality of life.

Award Categories
There are seven award categories which recognize design excellence in the following areas:
      - Low Rise Buildings
      - Mid to High Rise Buildings 
      - Civic Projects
      - Urban Elements
      - Neighbourhood Design
      - Visions/Master Plans
      - Student Projects

Eligibility
Different eligibility requirements apply for the different award categories. A summary of eligibility requirements is outlined in the nomination form

2011 Urban Design Award Recipients

More than 50 nomination were received for the 2011 Urban Design Awards in five of the seven award categories.

The 2011 Urban Design Awards Judging Committee was chaired by Councillor Berry Vrbanovic and comprised of Brian Campbell, Jim Fryett, Leo Guddemi, Carrie Curtis and Glenn Scheels. This Committee was responsible for the evaluation of the Low Rise Buildings, Civic Projects and Urban Elements categories. A staff subcommittee evaluated the Master Plan and Student Project nominations.
