In an effort to enhance our customer service, the City of Kitchener has replaced our former TTY (text telephone) system with new Textnet service and software that enables deaf, deafened, hard-of-hearing or speech-impaired residents to more easily access and converse with us.
Several staff members in each department - and within our corporate contact centre - are trained to use the new technology.
Textnet enables you to continue to use your familiar TTY communication device; however, it converts the communication to a pop-up text message that appears on your computer screen - essentially creating an online conversation.
Incoming calls can be redirected to other Textnet users and conference calls can be conducted if required, enabling communication among several users at once.
Residents can access the new Textnet service by calling 1-866-969-9994.
