Roads and Sidewalks

Roads Program

Maintaining and upgrading Kitchener's roads is an essential part of sustaining our transportation system.

The City of Kitchener undertakes a number of projects each year to upgrade our roads network; this work usually takes place in the spring and summer months.

Road work and maintenance activities in various areas may require detours, which will be clearly defined for drivers.

We are also responsible for the following roads operations:

Sidewalk Program

The benefits of a walkable community are immeasurable, and include:

Economic development through increased access to business.
Fewer car trips, resulting in less air pollution and traffic
A sense of community by transforming neighbourhoods into friendlier, more attractive places to live.

With that in mind, we undertake an annual sidewalk program, focusing on the creation of new sidewalks and walkways, as well as the improvement of existing ones, to ensure all of our residents can enjoy a pedestrian-friendly environment.

We also rely on the community to assist us maintain our sidewalks in the winter, keeping them clear of ice and snow.
