Mike Wagner Heritage Awards
Named in honour of Mike Wagner, a former Kitchener city councillor who was a strong advocate for heritage, culture and the arts, this bi-annual award recognizes and pays tribute to individuals, property owners, businesses, organizations and institutions who have contributed to the conservation of the City's cultural heritage resources.
Cultural heritage resources include:

Properties designated under part IV (individual) and part V (heritage conservation district) of the Ontario Heritage Act

Properties listed as non-designated properties of cultural heritage value or interest on the municipal heritage register
-
Properties identified on the Heritage Kitchener inventory of historic buildings
Up to four awards may be presented in the following three categories:

Rehabilitation/adaptive reuse award

Eligibility Requirements

Open to all individuals, businesses, organizations and institutions who have conserved cultural heritage resources or have demonstrated commitment to the conservation of cultural heritage resources within the City of Kitchener

Nominations must demonstrate that:

The conservation project involves a cultural heritage resource

The conservation project conserves the heritage attributes and values associated with the cultural heritage resource

The conservation project is located within the City of Kitchener
-
The conservation project is complete
-
The conservation project obtained all required approvals such as building and heritage permits

The conservation project has not received a previous Mike Wagner Heritage Award fro the same work
-
The individual, business, organization or institution has made exceptional or long lasting contributions to the conservation of cultural heritage resources within the City of Kitchener
Evaluation Criteria

Does the nomination explain how the conservation project has conserved the heritage attributes and values associated with the cultural heritage resource?

Is the conservation project compatible with the original cultural heritage resource and surrounding neighbourhood?

Is the conservation project visible from the public realm?

Does the nomination explain how the individual, business, organization or institution has made an exceptional and/or long lasting contribution to the conservation of cultural heritage resources?

Is the conservation project consistent with recognized heritage conservation standards?
