The mayor's advisory council for Kitchener seniors (MACKS) is a link between older adults in our community and the mayor and city council - providing a representative voice for members of our older-adult population, and thus enhancing their quality of life.
The advisory council:
MACKS is made up of 12 volunteers who represent older adults across our community including: two representatives from each of the Older Adults Centres (Breithaupt Centre, Downtown Community Centre and Rockway Centre), as well as one community volunteer representing each of the following areas of interest: Arts & Culture, Education & Technology, Environment, Health, Heritage, and Multiculture.
Monthly meetings are held September-June to share ideas, provide input on Kitchener's initiatives and projects, and report on issues affecting older adults in the community.
External liaisons to MACKS include city staff and community agencies as required.
To apply, candidates must be 50+ and live in Kitchener. Terms are 3 years and members attend monthly meetings also attended by the Mayor and City staff. Additional meetings may be required for specific project work.
