Standing Committees

Kitchener's standing committees receive and debate reports on matters that relate to the management and operation of city departments.

Comprised of all members of city council, recommendations derived from standing-committee meetings are then submitted for approval at the next city council meeting.

Kitchener has three standing committees:

  • Community and infrastructure services committee - Considers operational issues in community services department and the infrastructure services department, including issues affecting programs and services, such as roads, recreation, parks and community centres.
  • Planning and strategic initiatives committee - Considers all planning and engineering matters requiring public hearings and major strategic initiatives related to City growth including oversight of the Growth Management Strategy.
  • Finance and corporate services committee - Considers operational issues in the finance and corporate services department, budget and labour relations, and services such as liicensing matters related to the Municipal Code.

To assist the city's standing committees in making informed decisions, a number of citizens committees meet regularly to provide advice and feedback on a variety of local issues.
