Playing our part to stimulate the economy

McLennan Park Development

The McLennan Park development project -- located on a former landfill site at the corner of Ottawa Street South and Strasburg Road in Kitchener -- was awarded $2 million in federal and provincial infrastructure funding. The city also contributed $1 million in funding, which means the total amount allocated for this project was $3 million.

Project background

One component of the construction is a state-of-the-art skateboard park -- putting Kitchener at the forefront of Canadian venues for this fast-growing, dynamic sport. The skate park has areas for skaters of all levels, from the seasoned skater to the beginner.

The stimulus funding also helped facilitate the development of a community-trail system, playground, splash pad, multi-use court and washroom building.

McLennan Park offers a variety of recreational activities; and supports the city's commitment toward preserving and enhancing the local environment.
