KOF Improvements

The Kitchener Operations Facility (KOF) project was awarded $9,333,334 in federal and provincial infrastructure funding, which helped rehabilitate the 45-acre industrial brown-field site and renovate the existing 300,000 square-foot industrial building. The city also contributed $4,666,667 in funding, which means the total amount allocated for this project was $14 million.

Project background

The KOF has integrated municipal operations from five existing locations and houses approximately 500 city employees, as well as their work-related vehicles and equipment.

The city services delivered from the KOF include:

  • Road maintenance
  • Snow clearing
  • Watermain and sewer maintenance
  • Gas-line works
  • Parks and woodland maintenance
  • Fleet repair
  • City facilities management
  • Corporate call centre

The functions on the site include:

  • Stockrooms
  • Salt storage
  • Bulk material storage
  • Greenhouses

The KOF brings many benefits including:

  • Streamlined service delivery to the community;
  • Maintained and improved service levels;
  • Improved efficiency of vehicle use;
  • Elimination of duplicated vehicles and equipment;
  • Improved response times for emergency vehicles;
  • Reduced energy use through implementation of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) features;
